auditions

All you need for an audition for colibrí children’s choir is a child (first through twelfth grade) that wants to sing, your contact information for the registration form, the $20 registration fee, and about 20 minutes of time.

Your child does not need to prepare anything special for the audition. They will first vocalize up and down with the piano to demonstrate their vocal range. Then they will sing a well-known song such as “Are You Sleeping?” The director will be listening for a clear tone and in-tune singing. If those are in place, their part-singing ability will be checked. Then there will be a brief assessment of melodic memory and sight singing abilities. Students should not be discouraged from auditioning however if they cannot currently sing in harmony or read music. That will be taught!

If your child has difficulty matching pitch, some remedial private lessons might be recommended before they join the choir.

Your child may find this video from the Indianapolis Children’s Choir helpful. Our process is very similar.

Auditions will be held on the second floor of the McAllen Creative Incubator, 601 N. Main St. (Studio #13) in McAllen.

Please noteThe door we use is in the back, on the alley, where you will find parking.

After the audition there will be a short tour of the facility including the Gallery where we rehearse and the stage where we perform.
