All you need for an audition for the children’s choir is a child (first through ninth grade) that wants to sing, your contact information, and the $20 registration fee (cash or check).

Your child does not need to prepare anything special for the audition. He or she will first vocalize up and down with the piano to demonstrate his or her vocal range. Then he or she will sing a well-known song such as “Are You Sleeping?” The director will be listening for a clear tone and in-tune singing. If those are in place, his or her part-singing ability will be checked. Then there will be a brief assessment of melodic memory and sight singing abilities. Students should not be discouraged from auditioning however if they cannot currently sing in harmony or read music. That will be taught!

Your child may find the following video from the Indianapolis Children’s Choir helpful.  Our process is very similar.

Auditions will be held at the McAllen Creative Incubator, 601 N. Main St. (Studio #13) in McAllen.
